If we gather, if we fall, into the great unknown, things are gonna change in our favor. [May. 12th, 2008|02:22 pm]

[music |For Squirrels, "Mighty K.C."]

Two important updates:

First, I got a phone call from Krazi Karen. She's doing karaoke on Wednesday nights up at Walker's Speakeasy in Dearborn Heights, on Beech Daly just south of Joy. She just started last week, and she said she misses all of us and wants us to come see her. She can be reached at (517)918-8280. She's desperately looking for a place to do karaoke on Friday nights; I don't think she wants to wait for the Buffalo Wild Wings to open. Can't blame her.

Here's a map to Walker's Speakeasy.

Second, I'm in Arms and the Man at the Riverside Arts Center in Ypsilanti. It's produced by the Michigan Classical Repertory Theatre. They don't know jack fucking shit about publicity, as our audiences have capped at no more than 40 patrons on a given night; last Friday, we played to 4 people. Yes, Friday. Besides that, the theatre is a dump and they have very little funding for costumes and set. Everything is "borrowed" from Performance Network. But the MCRT's website looks nice. http://www.mcrt.org/show.cfm?showID=29

This play has been a bittersweet experience. Arms and the Man is one of my favorite plays, and I could go on for pages about how I am disappointed with the whole process, but I'll spare you and instead just beg for you to come see the show. It's coming to the point where I just can't get up in front of a crowd that I can count on one hand and do this. It would be a lot easier with familiar faces in the crowd.

Here's a map to the Riverside Arts Center:

It's easier to just take Michigan Avenue west and turn right onto Huron, because Huron is a one-way street.

And in case anyone is interested, the RAC's website is http://www.riversidearts.org

The show closes this Sunday. Thursday, Friday and Saturday are at 8pm, and Sunday is at 2pm. Tickets are $18 regular, $15 w/ student id. I strongly suggest people come Thursday night, because that is pay-what-you-can. Seriously, you can drop pocket change in the bucket and they'll let you in. So for all you people out there who are as broke as I am, and to all those kids I don't know from Marat/Sade and Shakespeare in Hollywood, tell them to come out too. The more the merrier.

I'm not getting paid for this show, but they do have an "actor's pot", which is like a tip jar for the actors. There's only like $20 in there, so it'll probably be just enough for a 6-pack. I'm not counting on anything substantial coming out of it, so don't feel pressured into donating. Honestly.

By the way, my haircut looks stupid.

Meanwhile, right after this I'm doing sound and projections for the spring musical at EMU, so I'll have to work Black Coffee around that.

So, yeah. That's about it. Go Red Wings. Let me know about any parties.

1) Finals are done. Spent lots of time crashing on friends couches so that I wouldn't have to drive home. Hoping for all A's, but we'll see. Not working kinda sucks, but I'll take wisdom over wealth any day.

2) Shows are done, but I've got two more auditions for three plays in the winter. I'll definitely be cast in 1 of the 3.

3) Go see "No Country for Old Men". Now. Go right now.

4) I'm going to a pre-screening of "Sweeney Todd" tomorrow night.

5) My younger brother is coming into town tomorrow night. We have not seen each other since August, and he will be very surprised to see me 20 pounds lighter.

6) Grace, sorry I didn't come to the show. I know, I guaranteed I was going to be there, and I failed. I'll make it up to you.

My next post will come very shortly after this one, and will pertain to something that needs to be discussed.

Hope all is well. I'm tired. Go Red Wings.
